Expectations and Procedures

Below is a list of expectations and procedures that will help you be successful throughout our year together. Please make sure to review this with your parent/guardian. Additional copies (if you lose yours) can be accessed via your class website or the Macopin Science website, www.macopinscience8.com!
Resources Needed EVERY DAY
A writing implement (that works!)

3 ring binder OR Pocket folder

Agenda/planner book given to you by Macopin School (spiral-bound)

Students arriving unprepared (without materials above or assignments, having to return to their locker) lose 10 pts on their marking period preparation grade with each occurrence.

Every student will be asked to bring in a marble composition book (which can be found at the

dollar store or Staples for $1 or less) to be left in the classroom as their Science/Data notebook.

Classroom/Lab Expectations

  • Come to class on time with a positive attitude.

  • Upon entering the lab, take your seat and begin the Do Now.

  • Record homework from the board into your agenda/planner book.

Classroom Procedures

  • The Do Now is the very FIRST thing you should do when you enter the classroom.

  • Bathroom visits may be made at the beginning or end of the period by asking permission and only with a signed agenda/planner book. Visits may be allowed when there is a break in instruction such as moving to lab groups or starting individual seat work.

  • There will be assigned seats and lab groups. They may change periodically throughout the year.

  • Student absences: When you are absent, you are responsible for retrieving missed assignments, homework, and paperwork from the student center folders. Most work can be downloaded via www.macopinscience8.com! Be sure to speak to the teacher to schedule any make-up work- this is YOUR responsibility!

  • Being late to class will result in disciplinary action (see Student Handbook- Lates.) Entering the classroom quickly and quietly and getting right to work on the Do Now is expected of all students.

Welcome/Expectations Letter

Upcoming Assignments/Science at Home

  • Upcoming assignments, quizzes and tests are posted on the board in the classroom, and in RealTime. Often the day’s events are outlined on your class website, which you can access via www.macopinscience8.com.

  • If you require assistance logging into RealTime:

E-mail: laura.oakes@wmtps.org
Laura Oakes, K-12 Technology Facilitator

  • Realtime is the quickest, easiest way to keep up-to-date with assignments, grades and attendance!

Grading/Evaluations
Tests and Quizzes       50% (Tests 35%, Quizzes 15%)
Laboratory reports and projects     25%
Homework/classwork/participation/preparation    25%

Late Work Policy: Late Homework is accepted only by the discretion of your individual teacher.  Make sure to check with your teacher about her late homework policy. However, late lab reports, projects and graded assignments will be accepted, but penalized for every day they are late.

It's going to be a great year! If you have ANY questions, you can reach your teacher via RealTime, their class website, or www.macopinscience8.com.

After you have read and understand this letter, be sure to complete the “Welcome to 8th grade Science!” Form at www.macopinscience8.com/important-forms .

REMEMBER, IF YOU FORGOT IT, LOST IT, THE DOG ATE IT, LEFT IT IN YOUR LOCKER....

You have options!

-Check www.macopinscience8.com and/or your teacher’s class website.

-Check Realtime.

-Ask a friend (maybe they can text you a picture, e-mail you, FaceTime you, Skype you...)

-Send your teacher an e-mail. (*last resort)

IF YOU DON’T DO ANY OF THE ABOVE, DON’T EXPECT TO RECEIVE CREDIT OR EXTRA TIME FOR ASSIGNMENTS!

THE EFFORT YOU PUT IN = THE GRADES YOU EARN.
